Wax, putty or glue dots?
Your diamond painting pen needs something sticky in the tip so it can pick up a drill, and thereβs more than one way to do it. Most kits come with a little tub of wax, and our gift boxes include one too. Once youβre hooked, though, you might want to try something else. Hereβs what we sell, and what each one is good for.
Which one is right for you?
Wax, and wax tips
Wax is where most of us start. You press your pen into it and off you go, and itβs what comes in your kit and in our gift boxes. We donβt sell tubs of wax on their own, but if youβd like a pen with a wax tip already in it, our Pick Up Pen is ideal for AB diamonds. When a tip wears out, replacement wax tips fit our pick up pens, but they may not fit other brands.
Putty
AMZ Diamond Painting Putty is a great alternative to wax because it lasts longer, giving you more time to diamond paint. Each pot is handmade by Abbie for Add More Zest and contains about 3g. It comes in a choice of scents, as well as unscented if youβre sensitive to smells (or donβt want to stop and sniff the putty while youβre painting!).
Glue dots
Glue Dots are 3mm in size and come in a pack of 300. Load your pen with 1 or 2 dots and it will last for ages. Theyβre a nice tidy option if youβd rather not have wax at all.
Glue strips
Think of Glue Strips as connected glue dots on a roll. Each roll is 4mm by 8m. Theyβre made for multi-placers, the pen tips that pick up several drills at once. Simply cut the length you need.

Not at the moment. Wax comes in our gift boxes, and most kits include a tub. If youβd like a wax tip pen, our Pick Up Pen has one, and we sell replacement wax tips for it.
-
Honestly, itβs personal. Start with the wax that came with your kit, and when youβre ready to try something new, pick the one that suits the way you paint. If you use multi-placers a lot, glue strips make sense. For single drills and long sessions, putty or glue dots are worth a try. All of them are inexpensive, so trying more than one is half the fun.

They fit our pick up pens. They may not fit other brands, so check the photo on the product page showing the pen they fit.

Our metal and resin pens can come with a 3, 6 or 9 placer, and you can also buy metal pen tips on their own.
